Over the last few weeks we have been learning all about different types of homes. We learned how homes have changed over the years, the difference between detached, semi- detached and terraced houses and even talked about some unusual type of homes like houses on stilts and igloos!
We decided to put our newly learned knowledge to the test when we worked in groups and constructed our own creative homes out of recycled materials. For a few days, Ms Curran's classroom turned into a bit of a pigsty with cardboard boxes, tubs and cartons taking over the floors while we worked on our projects; but she didn't mind! We really enjoyed creating our buildings. What do you think?

This week we got to put our science hats on as we partook in a number of experiments and investigations as part of science week. First up, we investigated whether materials were 'transparent', 'translucent' or 'opaque'. Some may think that these were big words for boys and girls in 1st and 2nd class but we were up to the challenge! .Next up, we were given the chance to create our own greenhouses. From our last experiment we knew that the cup at the top of our greenhouse would have to be transparent or at least translucent. This would allow the light to pass through it to help the plant to grow from seed.
We're very excited to see how our sweet pea seeds get on in our greenhouses over the next few weeks. We're looking forward to seeing a colourful classroom of sweet pea plants next April or May. We'll keep you posted! The boys and girls of 1st and 2nd class were delighted to be back in school yesterday after the extended break.
Smiles filled the classroom they greeted classmates new and old. We're looking forward to the exciting activites that this year will give us. Bring it on! |
