Active School FLag
Burnfort National School is an Active School!
We have attained our first Active School flag and we are now working towards our 2nd.
We see the importance of physical activity, not only for our physical but our mental health also.
In conjunction with the extra-curricular activities and teaching of P.E already in place in school, we are encouraging both pupils and teachers and indeed their families to be as active as possible. Throughout the year we initiate and organise events that promote our pupils to be physically active, with particular emphasis on inclusion, fun and whole school participation.
We have a very enthusiastic and hardworking A.S.F committee in the school.
Active School Week takes place every year. Last year, our Active School Week took place remotely in the form of an 'Active Home Week' and we had lots of fun trying out the challenges and activities that were set for us. This year's ASW will take place during our last week of school and we're really looking forward to it!

Physical Education with the 'Move Well, Move Often' Programme
The Physical Education curriculum at primary level consists of six strands. These strands are:
Each class has at least 60 minutes of timetabled PE time weekly. Last year, we updated our PE plan to ensure that all strands are covered on a yearly basis. Our new plan also ensures that each class focuses on the same strand(s) and Fundamental Movement Skills each month.
A number of our teachers have received training in the 'Move Well, Move Often' Programme as part of our continued professional development and this programme is now an integral part of all our PE lessons.
