A big thanks to first and second class pupils, Sarah and Ella and their families who both donated two fabulous bird boxes to the school.
With the help of Mr O'Sullivan, they were placed high up from the ground to avoid any predators. We're looking forward to keeping a close eye on our bird boxes to see if any birds decide to build their nests in them. We'll keep you posted!

We hope you enjoy our renditions of two popular Christmas carols- 'Away in a Manger' and 'Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland'. As you will see, we had a great time singing these songs and they really helped us get into the Christmas spirit! We love using the Ipads and the laptops to help us to learn. We enjoy playing maths and literacy games, researching for our projects and also testing our knowledge on our Kahoot quizzes (We get very excited by these!)
More recently, we have started to read books on 'Epic for Kids'. There are so many books for us to choose from and we enjoy finding a cosy spot in the classroom where we can read. 1st and 2nd class became scientists and engineers this week. We had a great time performing a number of experiments and investigations. There will be a few scientists in this room yet! During one such experiment, we investigated absorption and how liquids can move even if it goes against gravity! We also got to make slime. (This was a messy one!) We mixed cornflour with water and some food colouring and were fascinated when we made a very strange substance. It could be both hard and soft at the same time depending on how much force was applied. Wow! For some of us, the next activity was our favourite! We put on our engineering hats and in groups, had to design and construct a boat. Not only that, but the boat had to be able to float AND you had to be able to move it with wind! A big task you may think? Not for the boys and girls of Ms Curran's class! First, we had to design our boat and decide on what materials we wanted to use. This took time, but once we had our plans made and materials gathered; we got to work. There were cardboard boxes and plastic bottles everywhere! Ms Curran's classroom became a construction site for awhile but it was certainly worth it in the end. We performed plenty tests to make sure that our boats would float and we also learned the importance of materials that were waterproof. Once our boats were constructed, we were ready to investigate. We created a small pool outside and waved a book to create wind. Our boats passed the test. Mission accomplished!
Terrified teachers were spotted on the last Friday before midterm as scary skeletons, witches and vampires filled the school corridors.
Ms Curran's 1st and 2nd class classroom was no different and the spooky characters created some crazy skeletons as well as participating in a variety of other activities. We're all looking forward to a well deserved midterm break after a busy but enjoyable few months back at school. Happy Hallowe'en everybody! Here in 1st and 2nd Class we have a classroom full of very talented artists. Everyone is an artist and we love to experiment with different techniques and materials.
Here, we turned ourselves into Lego characters when we completed our Lego Self Portraits and we also had great fun colour mixing to create new shades. What do you think of our completed pieces of work? The boys and girls in 1st and 2nd Class have had a lovely summer and are now delighted to be back in school and to meet all their friends.
We've had great fun settling in and we're looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Bring it on! |
