Today we had our last day of school. We have our 'speaclaí' on and we're ready for the sun!
We've had a great school year and we're looking forward to the well deserved summer holidays. Stay safe everyone! Ms Curran and 1st and 2nd Class

A big well done to John from 1st Class who presented his fantastic project to the class on 'Minecraft'.
Over the last year, John has created many projects under the helpful guidance of Mrs O'Brien. He has taught us all about Godzilla, Spiderman, King Kong and sharks! We are always so excited to listen to John's presentations as they are very exciting and we always learn new facts that we didn't know before. He is also great to give us some time at the end for a question and answer session in case we have any questions. Thanks John! The boys and girls had a wonderful time on their school tour to The Farm, Grenagh. Click on the video below to see how we got on. 'Many hands make light work'.
This saying ran true this week as we tackled our patch in the school garden. The weeds were no match for our strength as we cleared our vegetable beds for our lettuce and also tackled the wheels so that we could plant our strawberries. We're delighted with how well it looks and we're looking forward to seeing our fruit and vegetables grow. This week in maths we were investigating the weight of various objects.
We learned that a kilogramme is actually quite heavy! We predicted and investigated whether items were greater or less than a kg. We also learned that a kilogramme is the same as- -two 500g bags of pasta -a packet of spaghetti and a bag bag of raisins - 5 and a half apples - a big bag of porridge We also realised that we shouldn't 'judge a book by it's cover'. Something may look small but it could weigh a lot! Today, some of the boys spotted a new visitor to Burnfort National School- an eight legged arachnid whom we named 'Fred'! We think he could have been one of the biggest spiders that some of us have ever seen in real life!
While we enjoyed observing him, we made sure that we gave him plenty of space and didn't disturb him. We hope that 'Fred' comes back to visit again soon! This week in maths, our lovely student teacher Ms Deane is teaching us all about capacity.
We had lots of fun estimating how much each container would hold and carrying out our investigations. Smiles filled the school this week as we returned after our time remote learning. The boys and girls of 1st and 2nd Class were delighted to see each other and to catch up on each other's news.
We wanted to thank our mums and dads for the brilliant job they did helping us to learn over the last few weeks so we decided to create these lovely cards as a thank you. 'Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir'. The boys and girls of 1st and 2nd Class have been very busy learning from home over the last few weeks. Both their teacher, Ms Curran and their parents are very proud of them all. Here's a little snippet into the fantastic work that they have been doing at home and how they have been keeping themselves busy. Hope you enjoy! |
